City Hunter is the story of Ryo Saeba (Nicky Larson), a private detective and bodyguard fighting against crime. When his partner Hideyuki Makimura is murdered, he accepts to partner with Kaori, the defunct's sister. Little by little, the two develop feelings for each others. Though, Ryo's attraction for pretty girls (he only accepts female clients!) coupled with Kaori's jealousy give birth to particularly comic situations.

Written and illustrated by Tsukasa Hojo, City Hunter was first published in the Weekly Shonen Jump. It has been adapted in a 140-episode anime between 1987 and 1991. Each episode is a new mission for Ryo and Kaori, such as catching a killer that uses hypnosis to make their target commit suicide or stopping a hacker from accessing missile silos.
